«Atomenergoproekt» design of atomic station with pilot power unit using the reactor plant SVBR-100

JSC «Atomenergoproekt» (Moscow) develops design documentation on construction of pilot power unit with the reactor plant SVBR-100 (Fast neutron reactor with lead-bismuth coolant). A relevant contract has been signed with FSUE «RF State Scientific Center — Leipunsky Physical Energy Institute (Obninsk, Kaluga region).

It is planned that according to developed design documentation in 2013 — 2017 there will be constructed an atomic station with pilot power unit at the site in the vicinity of ОАО " State Scientific Center — Scientific research institute of nuclear reactors» (ОАО GNTs NIIAR, Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanov region). The next stage after construction and power uptake of the pilot unit with the reactor SVBR-100 will be commercialization of technology possessing some competitive advantages.
The design of atomic station with pilot power unit with the reactor SVBR-100 will allow for creation of smaller and medium nuclear complexes of capacity multiple of 100MW. In particular, it will help satisfy needs in energy-generating facilities areas with little consumption volume and existing network limits.
Construction of such power units is possible in wide range of natural-climatic conditions, in this case a modular approach of the atomic station will be applied: the monoblock of the reactor and main modules are to be assembled at factories, the components are transported by railways and mounted at site. Duration of construction of the power unit from the first concrete to power-generating startup won’t exceed 42 months, and lifetime of the power unit will be 60 years. The reactors SVBR will be universal in relation to various types of the existing and prospective nuclear fuel.
Moreover, this power unit design may be used in future for renovation of the existing NPPs with the reactors VVER-440 because there is a possibility to install the reactor plant SVBR-100 onto a place of dismantled steam generators having remained without change all the rest infrastructure of the nuclear plant. It may extend a lifetime of an operating NPP at the site for other tens of years.
The prepared design should be based on safety criteria contained in regulatory-technical documents of Russian Federation with account of IAEA recommendations and EUR requirements. As a result, the power unit with the reactor SVBR-100 will be capable to withstand such extreme external loads as seismic impacts of intensity not less than 7, crash of aircraft flying with at speed 100m/s weighing 5,7t, air blast wave with maximum front pressure — 30кPа.
Since 2006 the «Atomenergoexport» specialists carry out preliminary works for use of SVBR for atomic stations. Thus, in 2008 «The general concept of pilot power unit with the reactor plant SVBR-75/100». In September, 2010 for starting works for this topic, ОАО «АКМE — engineering» has signed a contract with JSC «Atomenergoproekt» on development of design of General quality assurance program for single-unit atomic station with a pilot power unit with the reactor plant SVBR.
