COTES tested a turbine generator set at Nazarovskaya GRES

As a result of rehabilitation, the heat extraction system was arranged to supply heat to the consumers within the city of Nazarovo. Another benefit of this upgrade was improvement of power plant technical and economic performance due to combined generation of heat and electricity.   
Tests of turbine generator No 5, performed by COTES in 2011, revealed beneficial effect of upgrade, cycle arrangement changes, and modification of equipment design. An up-to-date portable testing system TORNADO, and automated data processing software were used to test the equipment. Application of TORNADO ensured accuracy of operations, greatly reduced test period, and eliminated potential inconsistency of readings.
Based on the test results, guidelines to further improve turbine generator set efficiency have been prepared. This will extend equipment operating life and improve performance of the whole power plant.
