Danish students went on an excursion to Leningrad NPP

A group of Danish National University students visited Leningrad NPP in order to learn about the production specific features within the scope of the training program.

During this excursion the NPP Training Center representatives told the quests about principles of power unit operation, about Leningrad NPP history and its position in power supply of northwest region, and also about the system of radiation monitoring and environmental protection, results of four power unit modernization and LNPP service life prolongation. The students also visited a full-scale simulator of the Training Center.
The guys asked LNPP specialists many questions, concerning all stages of the nuclear cycle – from uranium extraction and enrichment to transportation and reprocessing of the spent nuclear fuel - and got irrefragable answers.
"Russia is a unique country that possesses a full nuclear cycle technology, thus we were interested in communicating with Leningrad NPP specialists”, the Danes shared their opinions.
As a result of the visit to the nuclear power plant, the students will prepare detailed reports on the excursion and on the production fields where they could apply their professional skills.
Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the bank of the Gulf of Finland in Sosnovy Bor city, 80 km to the west of Saint Petersburg. . Leningrad NPP is a plant with nuclear reactors RBMK-1000 (graphite-uranium pressure-tube thermal reactors). LNPP operates 4 power units Each reactor has electric capacity of 1,000 MW. At present time the construction of Leningrad NPP-2, which is a part of Rosatom State Corporation long-term program for 2009-2015, is being performed. The construction management company is Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.
