Son La Dam Project on the Da River is one of the largest hydropower projects in the South-Eastern Asia. The installed capacity is 2400 МW; each unit is 400 МW. Thus, commissioning of the second unit already at present permits generating one third of the planned electric power.
According to Alexander Volynchikov, Chief Design Engineer, the specialists of the Institute proposed a number of non-standard layout solutions due to which it required only 6 years from the start of elaboration of Technical Design and detailed drawings to commissioning of the first two units. At that the designing was conducted in full compliance with Russian standards as well the standards of the leading foreign countries.
Commissioning of Son La Dam Project will provide flood protection of the Central Vietnam during peak floods, which will make this region attractive for further development. According to Alexander Volynchikov, flood accumulation in Son La reservoir and runoff regulation will permit more intensive agricultural development of the Central Vietnam, without fear to loose crops during the seasons of heavy rains and typhoons.
