More than 100 active and passive safety systems will be assembled at the future Belarus NPP

It has been announced by the Head of Department of State Ecological Expertise of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Alexander Andreyev at a video briefing in Minsk.

According to the expert’s words, the project of Belarus NPP construction is absolutely safe, reliable and has been worked out both in Russia and abroad. “For example, the NPP in China is working on the same principle and so is about the nuclear plant in Bulgaria under construction”, he said. “This is absolutely safe and reliable project”.
IAEA experts highly estimated the preparation work carried out in Belarus on the NPP construction. Several missions of this organization have already worked in the country. “There was not any negative statements in the address of Belarus on the part of IAEA, all the estimations are positive, including the part of national legislation formation and also of the training of the specialists for the work at the future NPP”, Alexander Andreyev underlined. “The collaboration with IAEA will be continued”.
The nuclear power plant in Belarus will be constructed according to the Russian project NPP-2006, developed by St. Petersburg Research and Design Institute Atomenergoproekt (a branch of Rosatom State Corporation).
The development of the foundation area for Belarus NPP construction at Ostrovets site in Grodno region is to be started already in September of the current year. Now preparation work is being carried out, the construction of automobile road and railway is in progress, production plant is being constructed. The NPP first power unit is expected to be commissioned in 2017 and the second one is planned to be commissioned in 2018.
