Leaders and specialists of TNK-BP Health, Safety and Environment Division and Group Subsidiaries, as well as recognized environmental experts working in Russia and abroad, have joined the traditional Round Table of TNK-BP and non-governmental environmental organizations.
‘TNK-BP is a leader among oil and gas companies operating in Russia in terms of interaction with independent environmental organizations, and ensures a rather high level of openness and possibilities for control on the part of environmental organizations’, said Evgeny Shvarts, Director for Conservation Policy of WWF, in his report. In the course of the recent years, a well established system of direct and regular communication among environmental NGOs and the Company management has been in place, which secures effective cooperation in all regions of TNK-BP presence, if necessary. ‘This allows us to identify operational and strategic issues for the company in due time, as well as ensure prompt response to ecologists’ addresses and suggestions’, he noted.
In the opinion of the round table participants, the Company efforts have led to an important result, which is a high level of balance (unity) of the scale and quality of corporate environmental standards application across all regions and subsidiaries, as well as controls over compliance with corporate environmental standards and contractor policies.
TNK-BP progress in terms of environmental protection has been largely due to close cooperation with independent environmental organizations: their expert reviews and consultations constitute an essential driver of the Company environmental programs efficiency, according to Igor Karlin, Acting Vice President, HSE, TNK-BP. ‘Environmental issues are a complicated matter but it is still our priority and compulsory business line. Recommendations developed at today’s meeting will be implemented in the course of the Company’s everyday activity’ he was quoted as saying.
