Enel Green Power in North America: the aim is innovation

Июля 26, 2012

EGP North America obtained a 99 million dollar grant from the US Treasury Department for the construction of the Caney plant. EGP’s most significant projects in North America

Enel Green Power North America obtained from the US Department of the Treasury a grant worth about 99 million dollars for the construction of the Caney River wind farm in Kansas.

The grant will be allocated to the consortium led by J. P. Morgan with which EGP signed an agreement in December of last year, aimed at establishing a tax equity partnership for Caney River and for the Rocky Ridge wind farm, for an exchange value of about 340 million dollars.

Caney River, with a total installed capacity of about 200 MW, can annually produce more than 750 million kWh, thus saving over 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Enel Green Power is present in the United States and Canada with Enel Green Power North America whose main offices are in Andover (Boston). With over 70 plants for an installed capacity of 1,010 MW, is present in several States of the USA and Canada, being one of the few companies whose portfolio of plants is diversified so as to include four technologies.

It produces more than 2.9 TWh of electricity per year thanks to wind (605 MW), hydro (313 MW), geothermal (47 MW), solar (24 MW) and biomass (21 MW).

EGP intends to grow by developing projects that are highly significant in terms of technology and finance, in countries with high consumption and abundant resources, especially in the geothermal, wind and solar sectors.

Regarding technological innovation, for instance, EGP-NA completed at Stillwater, in Nevada, the only hybrid plant in the world that combines the continuous generation capacity from a geothermal middle-enthalpy binary cycle with the peak capacity provided by solar energy.

The solar photovoltaic capacity amounts to 24 MW, with an additional 33 MW of geothermal generated at the same site.

Moreover, in Kansas Enel Green Power built Smoky Hills, the largest wind farm in the world, with a capacity that amounts to 250 MW, which can produce enough energy to meet the needs of 85,000 US households, saving about 750,000 tonnes per year of CO2.
