VATESI concluded that Buffer Storage Facility for very low level radioactive waste (project B19-1) at Ignalina NPP satisfies the solutions implementing nuclear protection, radiation protection, physical protection and nuclear materials accounting and control requirements, and that it can be applied for a setup of state commission to accept the object.
After the commission issues an acceptance certificate, all the necessary documentation including the acceptance certificate will be sent to VATESI in order to receive a Buffer Storage Facility operation license. Issue of the license is expected after agreeing with VATESI the Final Buffer Storage Safety Assessment Report. After agreeing all the necessary documentation with VATESI and receiving the license, Ignalina NPP will commence safe operation of Storage Facility for very low level radioactive waste.
The Buffer Storage Facility for radioactive waste is the first part of the project B19 which objective is to build the Landfill Facility for short-lived very low level waste.
