The Open Meeting of the Seimas Committee of Foreign Affairs With the EU and NATO Ambassadors Will Be Held at Ignalina NPP

On 19 September 2012, Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania will hold an open meeting in Visaginas with the participation of the EU and NATO ambassadors on the subject "Ensuring Lithuania’s Energy Security: The Role of Nuclear Energy".

During the meeting it is planned to discuss Ignalina NPP (INPP) decommissioning issues and Visaginas NPP project development issues.

The meeting will focus on Lithuania's energy security issues and presentation of Visaginas NPP project. The opportunities and developments of Visaginas city in the context of the new nuclear power plant construction project will be presented by Visaginas city representatives. Also, Ignalina NPP decommissioning issues will be discussed during the open meeting. The participants of the meeting will also be introduced to the implemented INPP decommissioning projects. They will visit the construction site of the projects B1 (Interim Spent Fuel Storage Facility) and B34 (Solid Waste Management and Storage Facilities).

The members of Committee of Foreign Affairs as well as the representatives of Ministry of Energy, Ignalina NPP, Visaginas NPP, Hitachi and Visaginas municipality will participate in the meeting.
