All the skills and expertise acquired by Enel in its campaign to develop electric mobility are now at the service of the Pope, with the installation of innovative recharge stations to support development of zero-emissions mobility at the papal residences.
Eight Enel recharge stations have been installed in Vatican City and at Castel Gandolfo. These stations are able to recharge the vehicles used by the Pope and those made available to the Vatican police force, il Corpo della Gendarmeria Vaticana, by car-maker Renault. One recharge station, in front of the Pope Paul VI Audience Hall, will be made available to Vatican employees and visitors.

Over more, following the launch of the Enel Drive programme some time ago, a number of pilot schemes have been up and running to develop the smart recharge infrastructure. Such an infrastructure is necessary when it comes to ensuring a service for electric vehicles that is efficient, widely available and user-friendly.
For the design and production of the recharge infrastructure, Enel based its technology on its own metering network, comprising over 32 million electronic meters installed in Italian homes. These meters, which are remotely read and managed by Enel, currently constitute the world’s only system capable of remotely managing a whole series of operations that previously could only be handled in person by one of Enel’s technicians.
Enel electric vehicle recharge stations are available in two versions: the outdoor Pole Station, a free-standing column delivering 3 or 22kW recharges, and the Box Station, a wall-mounted unit installed inside a garage, delivering 3kW recharges. This infrastructure, combining cutting-edge technology with design flair, provides eco-friendly e-motorists with highly developed, interactive services featuring a personal card for secure user-recognition and maximum safety for users when starting up and stopping the recharge process.
