At approximately 9:30 am CDT 15 June 2010, a small fire was observed at the top of the derrick on the Discoverer Enterprise. The fire was quickly extinguished.

BP announced significant progress in its half-billion dollar pledge to the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GRI).
