ADB to Help Uzbekistan Build Central Asia's First Solar Power Plant

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a loan totaling $110 million for a 100-megawatt solar power plant in Samarkand, Uzbekistan that will promote large scale solar energy development in the country.

Tests began in Eesti Energia’s Balti Power Plant to introduce the use of oil shale with low calorific value. Coal with higher calorific value is added to oil shale that has previously been considered unfit for producing energy, thus creating fuel fit for incineration.
